Balhagarty Sassy Sarah

This beautiful "Black Beauty" is 1/4 Welsh and is a grand daughter of our wonderful Cooch she had reached the age of 6 and through no fault of her own with only the most basic education. She is good to catch and handle and has taken to being ridden without problems. She has the ability to become an excellent junior competition pony or a fun ride for a lighter weight adult. Last winter the very competent Lizzie was helping me with bringing on youngstock and training some of the older ones for riding. She was very fond of Sassy as she named her and started working on her I was surprised and pleased at how quickly she came on, we ran out of time to finish her education but she would be a super project to bring on

Pictures of Sassy May 2016, we started work on Sassy about Feb. 2016 she was lunged and long reined and then backed we took her up to being ridden on the lunge on both reins in the grass paddock with Lizzie (the rider) using reins and legs, to ask for walk, trot and halt, she was well behaved at all stages, this work was all done outside in the round pen and in the grass paddock so we were dependant on the better days in the very wet winter. These pictures were taken on the last day that we worked her before Lizzie was away to America for 3 months. She was almost ready to ride away but time ran out. I then turned her away for the Summer she has put on a lot of condition and has lost all her winter coat she is now black and shiny. She is ready to go again and should not take much work to bring her back to where we left offand carry on forward to make a fantastic Pony. She is athletic and active and should excell dressage, jumping and working hunter. She would be great for an experienced junior or a lighter weight adult she has plenty of depth to take up the leg.

The Future of Balhagarty Stud: message from Gail:

We are continuing to breed some horses and cobs and look forward to the arrival of the lovely Albert's foals next year. The oldest of the mares will be retired and I am very tired !!!!! But never say never there may be one of my very capable family to breathe new life into Balhagarty Stud one of these days
